well actually if your present self goes back in time and kill your self nothing will happen. if you go back in time and kill your younger self in that timeline you will erase your future self (and present self) making it so that you never got older and went back in time to kill your self, but then that would allow you to get older and time travel and kill your self. and theres where the infinite loop happens. but if you just go back in time to before the year you were born and you die it wont effect the timelime, youd be just another person dying in that time
