Nice meme!
Snake churches were all about snake dancing; having close encounters with deadly snakes in order to test and verify a dancer's faith quotient, i.e. longer exposure was supposed to build faith. Like all other external signs and shows, all man-centered ideas in church, it is/was just rubbish.
