Wow the Washington Post link is ridiculous. Thats horrible, our prisons. And America treats its prisoners good. Im fairly sure that you get better food in an American prison than an average El Salvadorian.
As for stricter immigration in general, as someone from a family of immigrants I know how it works. One person in the family, gets a degree, an enormous feat for somebody that poor. Then he gains citizenship. He can then get in his brothers, parents, and their children, who dont inherently have much merit. As for Hispanics, the reason their immigrants are poorer and thus more likely to be criminal is because of the distance. Chinese immigrants for example, have to get the money for a plane to the US, which cuts out a good amount of immigrants. Richer immigrants can come, and thus they will be smarter and do less crime. Hispanics can walk/drive, so they can be poorer. Culture of course plays into it.
Back to the point, I guess it makes sense that criminals would do more crime. You've proved that, and the hill article especially makes it without a doubt. These jailing costs and schooling are probably high, but they do pay taxes that they dont get the benefits for. https://www.theatlantic.com/business/archive/2016/09/undocumented-immigrants-and-taxes/499604/
Its very unclear but I think they help the economy. There will be a labor shortage, and prices will go up vastly without illegals. https://thehill.com/blogs/congress-blog/foreign-policy/203984-illegal-immigrants-benefit-the-us-economy
The crime is horrible, but they make us money, so I really dont know.
