Beach Heart

Beach Heart | TIME
The countdown to another year has completed.
Resolutions are being created by many, and broken by many more.
Usually the ticking of the clock goes unnoticed,
But today it pounds in my head,
Prodding my tired body,
Desperate to wake me up,
To motivate me.
It’s screaming at me, hoping I listen.
The once comforting, melodic rhythm,
Becoming forceful and all-consuming,
Determined to remind me that time never stops,
Even when you beg it to.
Just one more minute gazing into your eyes,
One more second of you recognising me,
One more laugh and smile,
One more visit to reminisce

Time can bring happiness, joy and peace.
Time heals,
But time also hurts,
Time burns,
It slowly eats away.
A ticking time bomb.
It took you and continues to take.
You can never go back, and you can’t stay in the moment.
It stops for no-one.
That doesn’t stop me hoping it would.
My only comfort is knowing one day the ticking will stop,
And I will cease.
Time will defeat me,
And I’m happy to lose.
Happy to never hear that ticking again.
Until then, I wait for it to tire of me,
As I tire of it. © CLAIRE JACOBS 2019
