Obama increased the stock by roughly 11,000 in 8 years.
Trump made it rise by roughly 7,000 in 1 year.
It's not based on whose Republican or Democrat, it's based on who passes bills that are better for the economy

The Dow is up 21.46% since Trump's inauguration.
The Dow was up 53.52 % for Obama and the same number of days in office as Trump.
You can't go by points you have to go by percentage gain.
Last 28 yrs of Democratic presidents would give you around 9 times as much money as the last 28 yrs of Republican presidents. JFK through Obama. 28 yrs for both sides

It's true that Obama rose it by a higher percent, but when he was put in office the DOW was nearly 3 times lower than when Trump was inaugurated. If the DOW was as low during Trumps inauguration as it was during Obama's inauguration than the increase would have been roughly 95-105 percent.

And that is why you have to use percentage gain.
It really is the only way to make a meaningful comparison.
21.46% gain vs 53.52% gain.
Which is better?

Except...
Gaining 50% extra of, let's say 10, is less than gaining 20% of 100.
Throwing percentages without context makes percentage worthless.
100% 0f 0 is still 0

Odds are the percentage gain would be different if they both started on the same page. If you have somebody who invests 10,000 dollars in the end sees and 40% increase, and somebody else who invests 20,000 dollars and increases there profit by 25%, the person with 25% percent still brought in more money in profit. While 53.52% sounds better than 21.46% or paper, the net profit of 21.46 is higher.

$1 turned into $1.54 for Obama
$1 turned into $1.21 for Trump
For the same number of days in office and the same starting amount.
Which is better?

Here is what you are essentially saying when you claim "points" matter more than %:
Obama starting day in office Jan 20th 2009 Dow was at 7949.
Let's say one yr later the Dow was cut in half and finished at 3975.5
Trump starting day in office Jan 20th 2017 Dow was at 19827.
He too one yr later got cut in half and finished at 9913.5
You are arguing that since Obama only had a drop of 3974.5 points and Trump has a drop of 9913.5 that Obama's is way better.

It's exactly the same... you only have 1/2 as much as you started with under both scenarios.

Dow points are meaningless, percent gain/loss are the only meaningful comparison.

We will just have to agree to disagree.
The % gain is the only meaningful comparison.
Point gain of the Dow is meaningless.

that works

Here is another hypothetical for you to ponder if you think "points" is the correct way to compare.
Obama Dow Day 1 value at 7949
Obama Dow Day 365 value at 794.9
Point total loss of 7154.1
This is a loss of 90%
Trump Dow day 1 value at 19827
Trump Dow day 365 value at 9913.5
Point loss total of 9913.5
This is a 50% loss.
You are claiming since Trump lost 9913.5 points and Obama lost "ONLY" 7154.1 points that you would be better off with Obama's lower point loss.
Nothing could be further from the truth.
1 dollar for Trump would be worth 50 cents
1 dollar for Obama would be worth only 10 cents
Yet Obama had the far lower "point" loss.

So now you are not only changing the starting amount you get to pick any 2 yr timeframe from an 8 yr term?!?
% gain from the SAME starting amount and the SAME number of days in office from the START of the each president's term is the only meaningful comparison.

DIA returned 39.08% Jan 20th 2009 through Jan 20th 2010 (1st yr of Obama)
DIA returned 34.53% Jan 20th 2017 through Jan 20th 2018 (1st yr of Trump)
Explain how you would have more money with Trump?
