I spend time with engineers as part of my job and recently had to go to England. So I have been trying to learn the metric system better and got there and talked kilometers. They still use miles.....

That's a very good way to confuse things during international co-op while making parts, like a shuttle wing or engine.

Like the Hubble? Yes it can cause all sorts of problems, but getting everyone on board with one system is difficult for several reasons and not all of them intelligent if you know what I mean
