As a teacher of Rhetoric, I believe some could at least use a 100 level course that introduces them to something other than the useless commentary that many feel is legitimate debate. But I was referring to the long drawn out name-calling that takes over some threads, not people who are seriously trying to contribute to a political viewpoint's presentation or veracity.

Yes the name calling. I am guilty of it myself. I try to be better than that but sometimes I fail and miserably so at times.
Never heard of someone teaching Rhetoric. Tell me more.

Rhetoric is the discipline of employing logic and good speaking skills in a manner that moves the hearers or readers of an argument to, not only believe what is being said, but to act on it as well. Politicians, preachers, self-help gurus and anyone that seeks to sway the masses to act, all employ rhetorical skills to achieve their objectives. Logical arguments by themselves, rarely move the masses, a few intellectuals maybe, but the masses need more. Rhetoric, used properly, can do that. Many of my students go on to become speakers of some sort, unless they're just filling a course requirement.

I really don't participate to change other's viewpoints or belief system. That is extremely rare that would happen anyway and I am way to lazy too attempt that.
I just put my opinion out there and let other's attack it. I might learn something about myself that will lead to improvement of myself. I don't worry about trying to improve someone else. Not my job. LOL

I have a Middle-school and High-school curriculum out there, but I teach on a college level. I'm like you on this site, in that I don't see changing many people's opinion as a goal, especially in this environment. I come on here to create, mostly private memes for other social media, but sometimes just to stir shit up, and watch the fireworks begin... my little escape from being too serious. Depending on my mood at the time, I may even be the troll.
