The GOP did better in a midterm election under Trump than something like 80-90% of any other administration did in a midterm election. They even kept the senate.
In 1935, the Republicans made the same arguments against Social Security that they've made ever since against Medicare, Medicaid and Obamacare. The GOP hasn't learned a thing in 80 years.
