The us against them is a powerful tool. That's why social issues are often at the forefront of speeches and ad buys. They point out what you can see at your level because they know it riles the base. But look to see how they actually vote and you see where their true intentions lay. And mostly it points to making the rich richer on the backs of everyone else. Pretty much why I am a progressive. I want to take care of my neighbors and while I don't mind people getting rich, it needs to happen by merit, not a tilted playing field.
