True story: when my ex wife and I were birthing our first child, we heard this blood-curdling scream from somewhere down the hall, and the two nurses with us just stopped, looked at each other and said in their best Commercial Spokeswoman Voice: "Next time, she'll have the epidural!"
when my first son was born, we could hear 3 or 4 different women at different stages of giving birth screaming in pain, the nurse thought quickly and turned the radio up loud so we couldn't hear it..if you ever heard the beginning of meat loafs "I would do anything for love" jacked up to eleven was epic...
Not our hospital...the noise is part of it, because at that point, already experiencing levels of pain that would cause most men to go into complete shutdown, even with the epidural, women know they're in for a hell of a ride.
The "Natural Childbirth Experience" of going without an epidural is STRONGLY discouraged by most sane maternity wards.
