California's overly frequent wildfires do not go unnoticed. It is a shame the state officials refuse to take sensible measures other states do with in controlling the potential for devastation before it occurs. We have a lot of forest area in my state, too, but rarely see huge wildfires as we rely on commonsense forestry measures, such as removal of old, diseased trees and regular brush removal. These forest fires in California not only depopulate healthy trees, but the loss of root structure then leads to mudslides when rains come. I understand Californians are gung-ho about their environmental causes, but contributing to the the potential devastation for the sake of playing green police only shoots their aims in the proverbial foot. And if it feels that the rest if the country doesn't care, I'd have to respectfully disagree. But we are getting a little weary of seeing our federal tax dollars going toward rebuilding the ruin promoted by California's refusal to take measures needed to wisely conserve and protect their natural resources.
