I know this is old, but I think Cuphead's fandom had became bad because of the Bendy and the ink machine fandom. (Not saying all fans of both fandoms are bad, just some) This is probably because both games were inspired by old classic cartoon animation, the main antagonist of Cuphead was the devil, like how Bendy was a cartoon devil and also the main antagonist. If Bendy and the ink machine never existed or came out after Cuphead, Cuphead would still probably be popular, but probably similar to the Shovel Knight fandom.
