I don't really use Farce Book anymore for this reason. Well.. partly this reason. I have had people with whom I had 20+ years of friendship not only unfriend and block me due to difference in opinion on politics, but also send abusive private messages. Thankfully I have lived no where near any of these "friends" since the early 200's, so they won't be driving over to shoot me any time soon. (I hope!)

Its jut down right crazy, most of my friends don't share my political views and make a lot of FB post about theirs, I just pass them by lol

Right. I have had them take a nonpolitical post or comment and turn it political and put words into my mouth that I never said. "You basically said...."
"Umm... no... I never said that."
"Well you may as well have!"

Or comment on some public circulation and they come up with their craziness. I miss the days of people not being batshit crazy.

lol that sounds so familiar. For years I was involved in politics, was involved in the leadership of countless campaigns including four presidential campaigns, and was an officer in the GOP. But I walked away from it all and have lost countless "friends" because I committed the heresy of being a conservative who has refused to drink the Trump kool aid. I used to be all over Facebook, but rarely go in now because I get trolled and destroyed whenever I post anything. It's sad. And yeah, people twist your words into a pretzel

Politics lets you know who your friends aren't. That's about the only good that comes of it. I discuss anything political selectively and sparingly. I feel like we have political overload everywhere. I love to avoid politics as much as I can.

And some will sow the edit history to keep people honest. But yeah. How often do I make a typo or miss a word never realizing it until I post the comment!

Gotcha. I too despise that. It's like nothing is safe. You could meme about checking the mail and BOOM. Politics. Someone somewhere will insist on making it a political argument, or find a way to drag a debate into comments.
