You need only look to how the Soviets got pushed out of Finland to see how sucky their army was. A single Finnish soldier died for every ten that attacked Finnish forces.

Stalin was both direct and indirectly killing his population. This is also not counting the 8.5 MILLION PEOPLE HE HAD STARVED!

Stalin executed military officers, these were competent officers who knew battle. Because of this Stalin implemented mandatory constription. Because of Stalin's purging of officers, this posed an the illusion that the Soviets were terrible. This is what made Hitler invade the soviet union. He saw the Communists as a inferior
