These countries seem to be doing ok. All pretty happy places with great quality of living.

Would you lime to be a peasant in China? Why didn't you put Venezuela down. They were the closest to true socialism. Read about economic changes in Sweden. They are interesting, but had to open the market after a near collapse in the 90's.

You need to read up on the Nordic countries. They are far from socialist. In fact, they are calling themselves welfare capitalism and are trying to abandon a lot if the programs. Belgium has the population of 11.35 million. New York city alone is 8.353 million. This helps to make socialist democracies somewhat stable, but only on small scale.
Canada has had unprecedented growth, but much if that was tied to housing and energy. Energy is tied to the US primarily bankrolling it. Canadian economists are lamenting the change in us policies. So, if we decide we have our own energy...they are hosed. Plus the downturn in the development bubble for housing will cause s problem much like we had. To fight that, Canada has to raise taxes again or cut programs.
New Zealand and Australia work. I'd live in either in a heartbeat. However, they are mixed market economies and not truly socialist...as they will tell you. I do like the Australian healthcare system. But I also like their free market .

That was just a top ten list I got, I'm talkin overall quality of life. Everybody seems to equate socialism with Venezuela right now, which just isn't so, trump now wants to invade. No country is perfect, and as far as Canada's energy goes, the us does buy alot of it from us, especially Manitoba after the completion of the bi-pole 3 project. Now that legalized pot is on the horizon in October, the government is projecting a large tax revenue from it in th tens of millions, that just may help us in the trade war, however the f**k long that goes on...

My friends and family in Norway and Iceland would laugh. They are fed up with Socialism and protest against it. And you really want to put China on the list of "great quality" places to live? Only if you're a fan of smog and having your every action monitored by the State!

Very sorry to hear about your mother's health issue. But right wing, left wing not that much to do with the discontent, or wanting to stir shit up. Many feel the old ways have been desecrated in a second purge of tradition (the first being the time of persecutions from Christians).
