The better question is why did monkey think it was better to be themselves than humans that's how evolution works it all depends on the environment and it looks like they need another evolution now.

1: We didn't come from monkeys. 2: It's because we didn't evolve directly from apes, but instead we split off and made are own chain that would eventually evolve into modern day humans.
