Here's a history lesson, and hopefully I can make it as publicly acceptable as possible: back in ancient Greek times, when a son of a prominent family would be sent to a philosophical teacher like Socrates for an education, often the assumed payment would be that the son would perform, um, certain duties for the teacher. So basically Socrates was often screwed by those who learned from him...
