If it's the same one that I listened to, it was clearly Laurel, so I figured it was just a joke. Isn't it a joke? Or am I a big dummy for even asking?

I don't know for sure. I know that people hear and see things differently, especially at certain frequencies. My wife and I see colors very differently. We need to listen to the same recording at the same time and see. I just googled and listened to the first recording hit. Not sure what she listened to.

Yeah so we just listened to this one at the same time and I hear Laurel, and she hears yanny lol. She looked it up and it's due to what frequency you hear. I have high pitch hearing loss, so I only hear lower frequency which is the laurel sound. She can hear high pitch sounds so she hears yanny. It's so weird.
