actually, the uranium makes steam and turns the turbines which creates electricity. also, is this a reference to something? it sounds like its from one of the FF games or something as its pretty wacky.

It is actually a joke that any nuclear power worker knows. Due to the high stress environment, nuclear power operators tend to burn out (or as we say, "deplete") on the job. This has led to many joke surrounding the fact that Nuclear Power is not actually fueled by radioactive isotopes, but from the souls of those that operate them.
