Grandpa had 2 that I know of. When I met him, his hearing ear dog was Pal. I got the job of laying Pal to rest when he passed. Afterward, Grandpa got Bennie.Bennie stayed with him until Grandpa died. They're high-strung but very loyal.

They are that, indeed...my S.O. has one, now nearly 10, and still full of pi$$ and vinegar. What a personality...if I go on the computer and forget to set up a chair for him, he gets right upset with me! This is him a few months ago...he's a short-legged, or "shortie"--but he's chased a few bears up trees keeping his human safe!

I'm not allowed doggos where I live, but I have to cat types that keep me company. Noisy just caught a mouse a bit ago, and they're in the other room playing with it.Yup, they earn their keep. I had them spayed in November, and I can't get over how big they've gotten. They're both about 2 years old, and I have NEVER had a cat as big as these two. Pearl was always a bit of a stocky build, but Noisy was whipcord thin. Not anymore.

Our four legged family members are truly a part of our family and life.

Chicken Lover | WE KITTIES LOVE HUMANS TOO!!! 'SPECIALLY WHEN THEY COOK !!! | image tagged in chicken lover | made w/ Imgflip meme maker
Had cats, too ... my last kitty was a dark calico with a tortoise shell coat, white chest, nose and paws. Her growth was stunted because she was half-starved when I rescued her from a dumpster.

She was the only cat my father loved (up till then he HATED cats, lol) and she won everyone's heart. She was always tiny, but she had big teeth, big claws and big eyes, and she had a temper. She was the only one who could beat the snot out of the Jack Russell terrier that lived next door. She had the higher ground strategy down pat. One day I watched her being harassed by this dog and she just coolly climbed up onto the hood of my mom's Explorer, and just waited for the right moment. The pup got his nose just a biiiit too close.

WHAM. She took a vicious swipe at the dog's nose, bloodied it but good, then chased him all the way to the end of the street. Funny as hell. I thought she was done when they both went out of sight, she was just as lightning-fast as the JRT. She came back to the house without a scratch. I saw the dog days later. The moment he saw Dido, he'd run like hell back to daddy.

She died about seven years ago...damn. Still miss her. She was 18. But that one memory always makes me laugh.

We had a cat that was part Siamese. I actually delivered her. She adopted my wife, and she stayed with us until the day she died. She helped pull my wife through 2 heart attacks, just purring to her to try and calm her down. We treated her with a lot of love and spoiled her. In turn, she gave us a lot of love. When I got out of the hospital, she would lay on my chest because she knew my heart wasn't quite right. The ticking from my artificial valve tipped her off. Wife freaked, but I pointed out that with Rabbit on my chest, it was the same as my "pain pillow".

The two I have now, one was given to me (Miss Pearl) shortly after my little brother died. a couple months later, I rescued Noisy Nag from a crack house. Pearl is stand-offish, but when I sit at the table, she wants attention. Noisy will accept any affection, and comes to me often, demanding it. I ask her for a kitty kiss, and she immediately bumps heads with me. I ask that of Pearl, and she just shows me her butt.

Awesome :-) Pretty special animals they are .... they take such good care of us humans. There's much to learn from them.
