There is a trick! First scrape off the loose food and give it a rinse. Then take a dryer sheet and put it in the pot and fill it with enough hot water to cover all the burned-on food. stir it a bit to make sure the dryer sheet gets good and wet. Set the pan down by the sink and walk away. Leave it for AT LEAST 30 minutes. I usually just leave it over night and then deal with it in the morning if I burned it at dinner. When you come back to the pan, toss the dryer sheet into the trash, and wash the pan with the rough side of a sponge that had the scouring pad on one side. BOOM. The burned on food will wipe away almost with no scrubbing needed!
This was something someone shared with me on Face Book several years ago when I was active there. I was surprised at how well it worked!
