I know exactly what you mean, my mother does the same thing. When I was a child and we went to things like barbecues with friends I used to wonder if grown ups did anything but talk; then I learnt it was because they were all listening (or at least pretending to listen) to my mother's endless barrage of chatter.

Sometimes I wonder if it’s possible to have that many things to talk about.

The Greek philosopher Epictetus said "We have two ears and one mouth so that we can listen twice as much as we speak." But apparently some people have no ears and numerous mouths.

But they listen to the people talking to them too and that takes twice the time. But I upvote that comment!

In most cases I'd agree with you, however my mother seems to be an exception since she's unnaturally hard of hearing for her age. Thus she does a lot of talking and virtually no listening, because half the time she isn't aware someone else is speaking.
