Not really. I dropped my Usenet last year. Since Andrew Coumo went after Usenet providers, ISPs dropped the services. it's pretty much a ghost town there, anymore. Besides, this occurred about 10 years ago, so the conversation aged out and isn't available. The first volley fired in the net neutrality battle.

That's okay. Most young people aren't even aware thst Usenet, once the backbone of the internet, even existed. It was where spamming originated, much to the disgust of the regular user. It was a totally uncensored forum where anything could be posted from scientific theory to political rants to jokes and porn and how to raise your children. I found the best job I ever had there on one of their job boards. Unlike Monster and other job boards on the web, it doesn't carry click bait.

I assumed when you mentioned classmates. Writing skills are similar to what my grandkids would write.

I learned a lot in the two decades I used it, made friends around the world, and had a good time.

It actually works rather well IF you stick with .22 ammo, and IF you manage to tape it correctly (easier said than done). It's really more of a hassle than it is worth.
And it's only a one-shot-trick. The actual "BANG" is the explosive expansion of hot gasses created by the burning gunpowder. And "silencers" work by slowing down those gaqsses If you want to take another shot, you need a second bottle!

It works, BUT:
1) You need to stay with low-velocity ammo, like the .22 short, .22 long, or .25ACP
2) It's only good for one shot. A bottle with a gaping hole in it won't contain the hot gasses generated and cool them down. A second shot will require a second bottle.
It's REALLY, REALLY not worth the hassle, and not worth the risk of getting arrested for illegally manufacturing a silencer!

California, by far, has the strictest gun laws in the nation, so if you can do it there, you can do it anywhere. I asked a couple of my drinking buddies (the Governor of California, and also the Asst. Commissioner of the CHP) and they told me it doesn't matter if you drink the Pepsi before or after! Do what feels most natural for YOU!
