Information that can be classified as an actual fact that happens to be a bit unpleasant in some way is still an actual fact. Information that is best classified as manure (which is a nice way of saying bullshit), on the other hand, is the opposite of a fact. It is a deliberate fiction, which is to say it is an outright lie. There are times when it is perfectly appropriate to identify a lie for what it is.
