Just going to throw this out there, I'm not from Detroit. Not born and raised in south Detroit. I just like the song. But Detroit is awesome!

We have some friends from there but they won’t move back. Too dangerous they said. I haven’t been.

It's like anywhere, depends what part of the city you're in. Just there the sketchy areas outnumber the family ones.

There really isn't a 'South Detroit' that I know of except a restaurant. Steve Perry explained this in an interview a couple of years ago. It's my favorite line though!

That is true...but we took it as a Detroit shout out. There is a "Down River" Detroit and an East and West but no South, but we didn't hold it against Steve- ha
