the African slaves were the third wave of slaves in the US. The first slaves in the new world were the Native peoples that dotted the land from Peru to Canada. because the colonists were such jerks to their slaves, the Natives easily escaped, walking back to their tribes. the journey wasn't easy, but they could do it. The next wave Was a group that couldn't easily join their tribes. Most were Irish political prisoners. Sent here as "indentured servants" they were still slaves. they needed to only adjust their accents and speech pasterns to successfully escape their masters, as they could blend in with the European settlers. Finally The importation of slaves from Africa started. they couldn't walk back to their tribes because an ocean was between them and their homes. they couldn't pass for subjects of the crown because of their skin color.
