Thanks. I can just picture that argument.

HER: You're seeing another woman!
HIM: Yes, but I'm going to marry her to help take some of the stress off of your running the household.
HER: Wellll, as long as it means someone else to do the dishes...

Another great thing is Mormons don’t follow polygamy anymore and they haven’t for at least 100 years. Get with the times!

Discussing God's punishment for having a harem. Referencing King David and his spouses and concubines. He asked if we knew what God's punishment for multiple marriages was, and I replied, multiple mother-in-laws.

This was the young marrieds class. The bruises my wife gave me finally healed.

I was raised Presbyterian. We tended to face the contradictory facts in the bible. Probably why I'm not a believer anymore. Well, probably more because of my faith in science.

I've sampled a lot of the various Christian faiths over the last 6 decades. I left the churches, wrote a parody of the bible, and just try to enjoy life.

I drive some of my 'progressive' acquaintances crazy with my willingness to at least admire much of Jesus' teachings and consider the problems with religion to be misinterpretations of various scriptures. Most of the 'Christians' I've met on this site tend to be Christians in name only.

I've got a brother and sister that do missionary work and my family has long been involved in the church. I broke away when I started noticing how the people used the Bible to control others. Took a long hard look at it, and said, Nope. Now when my sister and I get in a discussion, she'll start with, "in the bible it says...." and I cut her off reminding her that I don't believe the Bible is the word of God. It took a while, but I got through to her that it was a bad tactic. I'd counter with Aesop's Fables, Greek mythology, Grimm's Fairy Tales, and so forth.

I don't have a problem looking at examples and parables in the bible, as long as no-one tells me straight out it's the inerrable truth. My break with the faith was when I realized science could explain things mighty fine. Scripture can guide people towards ethical ideas, but the idea of an almighty deity ordering people's lives derives from paganism, injected into Christianity when proselytizers found out people were more likely to listen when the old rituals were invoked. All that conservative Christianity? Look to the old pagan order.

Yup. Oh, I believe there is a force, call it God for simplicity, but my take is that in the beginning, God created science. Read Stranger In A Strange Land by Robert Heinlein if you get a chance. Gives an interesting concept on many subjects.

Read Stranger in a Strange Land probably 40 years ago. Used to be huge on science fiction and Heinlein was one of my faves. But Harlan Ellison took the cake.
