I have used my own photos twice, but yes I am using someone's work to entertain you with any compensation on my part.

But believe me I pride myself in writing jokes. But have on occasion used another's joke. I credited Woody Allen in one and made sure to use a photo of George Caitlin when using one of his wonderful jokes.

and as a copyright holder myself, I don't want someone making money off my property. But if I were to find someone sharing it freely I would not mind. But then again, I'm not a starving artist.

That is good that you give credit where it is due. Many of the jokes that I have read on imgflip are jokes I heard 20 years ago. They should be shared and put with the proper images to make them funnier.

I understand not wanting anyone to make money off of your idea but in the internet age it is hard, almost impossible to protect your "intellectual property" because when an idea or creation gets on the web it is a free for all. I watch pirated movies and television shows everyday. I don't even have cable and I only go to see a movie if it is a genre I really like.

I myself am a minister and preacher and not all of my ideas are original (nor should they be) because they all come from the same source material as all other preachers who are true to the bible. The ideas are just told through a different personality.

When I think of comedy I think along the same lines; my favorite type of comedy is hearing about relative events through different personalities. I like to hear different people joke about what has been going on in society and the world.
But to say the exact same thing as someone else is garbage and whoever does that should be mocked and shunned.

But you need to understand we want the same joke over and over. It's like a comfort food in a way. Similar to why people go to listen to you quote the Bible even when they know the sermon already.

Then occasionally someone takes an old joke a puts a twist on it that makes it funnier because we were so comfortable with the old one.

True can be said of preaching. Your flock may know the story backward and forward, but it's when you show them a new way to look at it that makes it fresh again.

That is where my creative talent comes in: always thinking of new illustrations that pertain to life today and new ways to apply to our lives the same principles that we already know and explain how those principles relate to new circumstances in society.
I think the best comedians are those who tackle new circumstances in life with their personal sense of humor.
The same stuff does get boring after a while. That is why I like memes because at least you can put a joke with different images to make it funny again.

I'm with you on that. I share stuff with other users and I don't mind at all if someone uses my stuff. I consider it a compliment and I'm not alone. Here is a gif I never posted about reposts. It would be a repost! imgflip.com/gif/1bnckw

I get like 75% of my ideas and inspiration from looking at other memes and thinking that I could do that better or tell a joke funnier.

So long as they dont just repost it like 1 day after im fine.

Yeah, as long as it is not direct plagiarism I don't care. Just don't use the same image and words as I use unless you give credit. Other than that, if someone takes my image or my joke and makes it funnier I'm honored. Even if they make it not as funny or mock it to troll me I don't care.

That is about the extent of Schumer's "comedy" but if someone can take a joke that I use and put it in a funnier meme I'd laugh and give upvotes.
