"Lapp" is a pejorative term for Saami people, the same as the "N" word is for people of african descent. There's just a lot less of us out there, so most folks just don't know about it or us, shoot, I'm probably the only Saami Imgflipper on the site...

I'm calling baloney on this one. Lapps are people of Lapland, which according to Wikipedia is the northernmost region of Finland. I guess some people will take any excuse to be offended, but I figure a troll will use any convenient handle to try to get people riled up.

The Saami (also spelled Saami) people are the indigenous people of Scandinavia. There are counties in Finland and Sweden both named Lapland, in Norway there's Finnmark county (Finn is another term for Saami) and in Russia, the Saami live over on the Kola Peninsula. We've been there for something like 10,000 years. NjaelaG, I apologize for allowing you to be the last straw in a long day spent dealing with snowflakes and reading about morons in government and maniacs in protests. Everyone's claiming offense about everything, and how can anyone keep up with every innocently-used word or phrase that people are suddenly triggered by? It's like a worldwide competition to see how inventive we can be in coming up with new ways to take offense. FWIW I assure you that it was a pun only, and certainly not meant to insult anyone. But I'm through apologizing for vocabulary that was fine yesterday and is forbidden today. Enough is friggin' enough.
