Everything my generation made was passed on from previous generations. Computers? A knitting machine from the 1800s. Cellphones? Al Bell and many others kicked it off, but add in Marconi's Wreless, visions of Star Trek, and now I do this on my phone.
I was born two months before Sputnik was launched so I'm literally a child of the space age. I watched, and later read, a lot of SF growing up, so not much surprises me.
