I'm just sitting patiently. Usually, they'll buy an old mall, and at least they'll attempt a revitalization. You can bet that some of the property will have a church on it, though. It's a slow takeover. I think States will have to determine where commerce and religion separate, though. The mall, for example, is not a tax exempt entity, so has to pay taxes on the land. They may donate space, tax exempt, to a church for services. Still, though, they have to pay taxes on rent received. I was an officer in a local fraternal organization, but if we rented out a floor for a private party, we couldn't charge rent: we had to suggest a donation, otherwise, even with tax exempt status, we would have to pay taxes.
