I didn't make this one. As far as I know you can't do PNGs in Paint, they leave a white box.

I do all my PNG work in paint.net (it's a program, not a website) now.

Freeware, or do I have to pay for it?

Hmmm ... I guess I have to do some online research ... how would you evaluate that "paint.net" (10 - outstanding and 0 - poor)?

lots of cool plug ins...they have one which adds the border around font, imgflip/meme style...which i've used...a lot!!!

Freeware. I don't remember who told me about it, but basically the guys at Microsoft were working on an update to Paint to MS killed it. Considering IP laws I have no idea how this would be true, but apparently they just finished the project and put it online for free.

I think I'd probably rate it a 7. I've attempted to use Photoshop before, but even with my extensive PC background I had a hard time with the learning curve. Photoshop has a lot more advanced options and would be the 10 in my limited knowledge. paint.net only gets a lower rating because it doesn't have the advanced and super-advanced options, which in my opinion are perfect for freeware and people new to photo editing.

I highly recommend it for newbies like myself.

GIMP is good, and it's easy to learn.

Fireworks too if you can get that. It has layers and frames for creating animations. I would still be using that but i'm on a old pc now and can't run fireworks anymore :(

apparently it's been discontinued now, but it was the best graphics program! It's still available on www.oldversion.com. Handles every graphics format and had built in macros for animating, you could set animation paths and it automatically created the frames and movement for you! also used PNG as native file format so no faffing about with "FILE | SAVE AS" or exporting

fireworks MX was the best version, i think this was the last version by "macromedia" before adobe bought it over and messed it up. adobe only bought it because it was such a huge threat to photoshop! if you can get it, get it, you won't be disappointed ;)

Chumpchange told me to use GIMP, I just haven't gotten around to DLing it yet. Haven't really made much lately anyway.

It does. As far as I can tell it's just a simpler version of Photoshop. Less bells and whistles, but you can still do the core of what you need to do.
