Especially Blue Grass. Country, Gospel, and Blue Grass all sprang from the Irish immigrants that populated the Appalachian moutains.

My little brother was the music expert in the family, which is saying a lot. We were exposed to all sorts of music growing up, but he knew it all. Google the music of Appalachia and you'll discover the close association.

A lot depends on how it's presented. My step dad and several others tried to force c/w music on me without a thought about other types. My dad and mom saw to it that we kids experienced a broad range of music: very broad. Also, I was affected by music in cartoons which turned out to be classical music.

It's weird, like I grew up with a lot of Cash, and Willie Nelson around the house. But, for whatever reason my job plays country and I just get all angry and sleepy at the same time.

I just find Irish/Scottish folk to have much more soul... and depth.

It's likely they're playing contemporary country. You need to discuss this with your boss, but ask him if he could at least play REAL country. Put together some CDs of old fashioned country music and artists and offer them up as an alternative. Cash, Willis, Merle, Waylon, Flatt & Scruggs, Reds Foley and Sovine. Tex Ritter, Roy Rogers, and so on. If you work in a factory, keep the music upbeat and jaunty. In an office, retail, or restaurant, mellow country. As long as you offer up something worth listening to, they may go along. Even if they only do it one day a week, it's a start.

Oddly enough, I work in a call center and the gentleman just turn it to a local Country station that only plays "Todays hits"

Tell your boss I said he's an idiot unless you're selling concert tickets for the artists the station plays, and that station is piped into the phone system for people waiting on hold. I've worked call centers, inbound and outbound. I have never been in a center that played the radio, and I've done a lot of call centers.
