Because the original idea was than Zelda was a woman who was supposed to save the prince of Hyrule named Link.But in the end,Nintendo switched roles of the characters,but not the name

I know,right?Also,did you know that Ocarina of Time was supposed to be in First Person,but developers made it Third person because they wanted players to see how child and adult Link look like?
