And yet we still make wheels.

But those wheels have different designs. So do the vehicles that have the wheels on them. Reusing meme templates is like making new vehicles. A repost is more like Toyota slapping their logo on an F-150.

Futurama Fry Meme | SO WHERE'S THE MEME LAW AGAINST MISTAKEN REPOSTS? | image tagged in memes, futurama fry | made w/ Imgflip meme maker
If reusing meme templates is like making new vehicles, then it would only be illegal if there was a meme copyright law. But there isn't. ( ° ???°)???

I've never said reposting is illegal. It isn't. It just stifles creativity.

Half the meme's that make it to the front page are rehashed.

Sad but true.

I was on a good mood this morning when I was upvoting. I can point to others I ignored for the same reason you cite. Reposts. So why did I upvote this? Because it's an old joke I had not heard in a long time. I had not seen the other posts, and I'm on here a lot. I upvote the first instance I see something that I like.

It's entertainment. Much better than many of the posts I see here. Why do you think the same template was used each time? Probably someone passing around a meme on Facebook or 9Gag, or any number of other sites where the imgflip logo isn't.

I think I'd rather see reposts of funny stuff than some of the posts that get featured.

Did you see my front page GIF the other day? <a href="https://imgflip.com/gif/1kj6uf"><img src="https://i.imgflip.com/1kj6uf.gif" title="made at imgflip.com"/></a>

That's what it was about. If all of the garbage posts were eliminated, then people might not have to wade through so much crap to discover it's a repost.

Go through my posts and you'll see stiff that's been posted elsewhere. You'll even see "original" posts that are nothing more than jokes I heard more than a half century ago. If a me.e has hit its saturation point, it won't get more than a few views, maybe an upvote.

If you have a complaint about a repost, take it up with the person reposting it, but not the person that laughed at it.

"Reposting is not strictly prohibited, but try not to repost something that's already popular on a big website. Moderators will try to disapprove obvious reposts. "

This isn't saying it's okay to repost, it's saying that it's supposed to be looked down on/avoided.

And the way this same EXACT joke keeps being used on an almost weekly basis just makes the repost look intentional.

The problem is the mods allowing the obvious reposts. :{O
