For many years now, I've been a thorn in the Canadian gov'ts side about this issue. But what is needed is numbers. And noise.
I remember clearly when Margaret Thatcher tried to bring in a Poll Tax on already overtaxed Britons, back in 1991. That same year, Brian Mulroney brought in the Goods And Services Tax.
The Brits, bless their souls, got pissed. They hit the streets--HARD. Thatcher had to rescind the tax and was bounced out of office shorty thereafter.
Canadians didn't do anything, just sat and whined, save for a few business owners that flipped the gov't the bird.
We need to stand up as a group and say Enough. Instead we get "p****y marches. Jesus, I wish people would wake the hell up.
I do find hope in younger people, though .. they seem to be more aware of the difference between right and wrong than us boomers do, for sure :-) my experience, anyway .. I'm very impressed with them, actually, and relate very well with them. Perhaps it is the young that will instigate the most positive change :-)
