Why are there so many shoes on the side of the road?

I've been told it's a gang thing. Gotta walk home barefoot for initiation.

I did a bit of a looky loo on google, there's a few reasons, gang was one, bullys another etc. I seen it a few times here in Canada in places not gang related, but thats just us wanting to be special too ha ha. Now I wannna do it for fun. I'm gonna nab my buddys ugly ass golf shoes that squeek and toss them up, infront of his house. Heh heh heh.
