If you are submitting, you are sharing, which in turn increases your chances of making the front page. What they don't tell you is that the meme you just shared, has to be seen by, and up voted by enough people for it to be popular enough to be seen by and up voted by more people. And then, if enough people see and up vote your featured meme, you might make it to page 1 of the "Hot" list. There is this whole mathematical theory on how to make the front page, but that class is more advanced and more boring than the one I teach, which is only slightly more boring than this response.
