Today's "liberals" are, in truth, the doublespeak talk George Orwell spoke of in 1984. These neoliberals are more conservative than Dwight Eisenhower with the Moral compass of Richard Nixon. They are the refugees from the GOP the started fleeing that party starting in the 60s as the conservative southern Democrats fled the Democratic party.
To be liberal is to be progressive, but it is difficult, being mired down by the label hijacked by these neoliberals. Many, to distance ourselves, choose the term progressive. It is more descriptive and a better way to distinguish ourselves from the regressive neoliberals and self proclaimed conservatives
