Sometimes. Other times, it's actually about making your own identity, precisely to go against the people who demonstrated such a lack of compassion for people who stood out in the first place.

Identity is something very fluid and very much within our control to change for many reasons.

I'm in my 40's and I still have no idea who I am.

This made me sad because I had tried to change my core identity as a teen and up to my mid 20's... Then I just stopped giving a damn and regained who I "Should be" instead of who people "thought I should be".
