Read the Constitution. You might be surprised how the Presidency was originally determined.

Imagine if the Indians won Game 1 of the World Series 25 to zero. They then win Games 2 and 3 by a score of one to zero. They have scored 27 total points and won three games.
The Cubs win Game 4, 5, 6, and 7 by a score of 3 to zero in each of those games. The Cubs have scored 12 total points ... but the Cubs are World Series Champs having won 4 out of the 7 games.

If we went solely by the popular vote, 10 states could decide the presidency every year. Is that fair?

10 states DO decide the presidency each year it's called swing states. i live in one and california and texas voters aren't worth shit cause all their votes go blue (california) or red (texas) regardless of how close it is. This is a vote for the leader of the nation and it is supposed to be decided by the american people themselves. I can't see how this is a democracy if the canidate can lose even though more americans voted for them. It just does not make any sense whatsoever. This isn't what i thought voting was when i was a kid i thought everyone's vote mattered. Sorry trump supporters in california, sorry hillary supporters in texas. you're not worth shit to the nation cause your vote never matters. oops. And i your comparison with baseball makes no sense because we just had 1 election not 7. Sorry but i don't get it. Now that hillary has popular vote, that means more people DON'T like our sson to be president than do and that doesn't really sound america in my mind. Luckily this only the 5th of 57 times the college f**ked it up but it should never happen. I remember putting my ballot in yesterday feeling pretty powerless cause it's a close election and i knew this might happen. Each and every individual doesn't even have a say it's just 10 states deciding it each year like you said would happen the other way around which really confuses me. I voted for the first time yesterday and it wasn't worth anything for the country even though i'm an american. i'm hesitating on even bothering in 2020. But yes, 10 states deciding the election each is not fair but sole popular vote would STOP that.
