This is the start of a conversation, not an attack. Racial naming conventions here in the states have historically not been the best, and some have deeply negative connotations associated with them, but what we use today are nonsensical.
Sorry, a continental ancestry and current nationality do not define your race. In my opinion, a white man born in Africa who moves to America in his 30's is more African American than a black man who is 5 generations removed from anyone living in Africa. Just one example, same applies for Asian American et. al.
I'm fine if you just use ancestry, like Asian, African, European, etc.
I also understand if people don't like Black, White, etc.
A race is a race, no matter where you live. A black man, let's say 2nd or 3rd generation out of Africa, who is born in Japan is black. There is no checkbox for him filling out forms for his race in Japan that states African American, and it wouldn't apply to him in the least bit. Another example is someone who identifies as African American who was born in the states and moves to another country. Your new countrymen would laugh hysterically at you if you said that your race was African American.
