The Fictional World equates "intelligent people" with snobbishness and getting upset if they're not considered the smartest person in the room. The truth is closer to how you feel when you're surrounded by folks who are into things you aren't, be it religion, politics, culture or entertainment. You're not sure how to talk. You have trouble following the conversation. You might be mocked or shut out if you say the wrong thing. And when you finally find yourself surrounded by others that are like minded, you relax, open up, and hope to learn something from the others. It's not snobbishness, it's "WTF is going on, I can't even"-ness.
