I remember when a person making minimum wage could afford to rent a place, buy clothes, food, etc, and even put a little money in the bank.
The only way to do that is for nobody to accept a minimum wage job.

I remember working 70 hour work weeks to feed my wife and kids on 1.85 an hour. No complaints here... In fact I'm bragging... I paid cash to the doctor for prenatal care and to the hospital for a three day stay when she had our second son... I drove a paid for Volkswagen bug... I thought I was in heaven when I got a job in a Saw mill and got 4.95 an hour... We called each other "easy money" while sweating pulling lumber off a Green Chain. I don't know why I was prompted to post this but here it is... I have no regrets. I would rather live in that world then the wimpy effeminate sissified world we have today.
Did you know that $6 billion a year in snap benefits go to Walmart employees who actually make slightly above the federal minimum wage, which they then have to spend at walmart? I think you've got a case of misplaced blame here. I bet you're one of those people who wants to "save money" by drug testing everyone recieving government benefits.
