Do not rely on a email passed around to determine which charities are the best or worse. Most the information is outdated or totally fabricated.
http://www.charitynavigator.org investigates the various charities and rates them on efficiency. They include services provided, exec compensation, and how much of your contribution goes to actual services.
Check them out. If you see an organization paying a CEO $100 to $200K a year, but has an efficiency rating of 90%+, that person probably earns it, and is worth it to run such an efficient operation. But you won't find a national charity that doesn't pay something to their chief officer.
