this happened to a former co-worker of mine years ago at a different job

dashhopes having a kid reminded me of this story.

i know parts have been exaggerated over the years my co-worker told me it but this is the basic version.

my co-worker "jeff" (who recently passed away) was at work and got a call from his wife saying she was in labor and needed him to take her to the hospital. jeff went to the boss and told him about his wife. the boss said no i need you here. jeff told him it was a slow day and wouldn't be missed. then the boss either said "you're not in labor" or "well you're in labor too get back to work". jeff had a four letter conversation for about 5 minutes with his boss and left anyway. needless to say jeff got fired.

there is a happy ending. he got a better job after about a month.
