Yeah, it all depends on what you're going for. If the points and competitive aspect of meme-making are really what a user is going for (and that is perfectly valid), then that user will want to stay away from user templates. If one actually enjoys creating or using custom images/templates, then that user has to accept that those submissions may not get the visibility and traction that the core/site templates get. I love creating custom images, so the meme I linked here is not truly an indictment of going that route - more of a tongue-in-cheek commentary on the "second-class citizen" rap that user templates kind of get ;)
