The Wise man was the wizard and the wise woman the witch. Until Christianity hit the British isles, the most important people in the community, although it was more often the woman that took the role. It was all due to the local. Societal structure, and often by a barren woman/widow. Traded her services of roots and herbs and potions for her other needs.
