Got a scare-tactics scam the day before I had my big second job interview. Someone was trying to scam into paying the 'IRS' immediately. They did everything the IRS said they WOULD NOT DO, when calling about tax fraud. So I reported them. But MAN, did that scare the crap outta me.

My favorite tactic with scammers is to keep them on the line as long as possible. One of my best was when a coworker kept getting calls for a free laptop if he was going to school. This company, employing only those in India, would not take him off the do not call list, so he finally let at them. I kept them on for over 30 minutes giving them my best, confused old southern white man schtick. The first guy was so excited I wanted to participate I got passed to an even more excited supervisor who was going to coach me on how to answer the questions when they transferred me to some company that would have been the ultimate scammee. Needless to say, the references about the Dallas Cowboys and Tom Landy didn't work, but I told him "I'm ready coach, put me in". So I answered his first test question the exact opposite of the instructions to not say another company told me how to answer the questions. Idiot didn't understand how I could be so excited yet so stupid. An epic story still mentioned in happy hours to this day.

And yes, one of my goals in life is to be used "for training purposes" by a scam call center to know when to give up.
