Libtard sez: yeah, 50 years ago. Again: Republicans were the party of the north in the Civil War, the Democrats were the party of the south. A Democratic president bullied congress into passing the Civil Rights Act and then signed it. As white Democrats feared losing power to African-Americans they transferred their allegiance to the Republican party. Nixon and his cronies sought to get him elected and empower his programs by garnering southern votes by appealing to racism. Since then the Republicans have been the party of the south primarily because the GOP has focused on social conservatism as a sop to conservative voters.
However, as the south becomes more urbanized it is gaining more Democrats, thus becoming LESS Republican. The House of Representatives has a Republican majority because Republican statehouses gerrymandered House districts. Therefore, despite Democratic representatives gaining more than a million more votes overall than the Republican candidates, the House stayed GOP. But perhaps not for long, due to changing demographics and a crappy presidential candidate turning off moderates.
This libtard does his research and is a history major. He's also a Straight White Male, although one with an open mind.
